Happy April Fool’s Day!

I really have no idea what April Fool’s Day is. Nalaman ko lang yan nung naging Internet parasite na ako. At palagi akong nahuhulog (in English, I always fell for it).

My first April Fool’s Day encounter was when its namesake, April, made an announcement in her blog that she’ll stop blogging. I always thought that she really loves blogging, and stopping from doing what you love is terrible. That’s why I fell for it. Then the next day she wrote another entry saying that its an April Fool’s Day joke, sabay bati nang “Happy April Fool’s Day!”

Another April Fool’s Day Joke that I encountered was the Gmail Paper. Kung tama yung pagkakatanda ko, the said “new feature” of Gmail was posted right on the login screen. They’ll print your e-mails and deliver it right at your doorstep. They even said that the paper was made from soybean sputum so it is environment-friendly. But then I found out that this was another hoax when I clicked one of its links. Yep, I fell for it. I never thought that if they would be able to print my e-mails, then they would be able to read it.

And for this year? Another one, coined from Gmail - the Gmail Custom Time. A new feature from Gmail where you can manipulate the timestamp of an e-mail when you send it to another user (except that you can not send an email dated past April 1, 2004 - first birthday of Gmail - since that would be something suspicious). I saw the link to this page at the top left of the Gmail page. At first (around March 31, 11pm US Time) the page doesn’t exist yet, resulting to a 404 error. But by 12 am, the page was already there. The only links that you can click are the Terms, Privacy Policy, and Program Policy where you will be redirected to a page, saying that Gmail Custom Time was not a real product or feature of Google.

For our local version of an April Fool’s Day Joke, our officemates made up their status messages in YM greeting April a Happy Birthday (April’s birth month is October) and our friends keep greeting her. All she could do is to tell them “Happy April Fool’s Day!”.

Kalokohan talaga. Natatawa nga ako, kasi kahit yung mga Digg users, hindi agad naniniwala sa mga news na pumapasok, dahil baka mamaya e joke rin yun gaya nitong isang ito.
